Landfill Now Accepting Ag, Other Plastics

Supervisor James Goldstein (D – Lebanon), chairman of the Madison County Board of Supervisors Solid Waste and Recycling Committee, announced recently that Madison County entered into a contract with a firm that converts agriculture and other plastics to oil; these materials will be collected at the landfill site and transfer stations throughout the county as a first step toward creation of a regional facility to recycle them in Madison County.

Goldstein urges the public to utilize this opportunity and encourage others with a commitment to recycling to do the same.

Erie Canal Calendars Available

(Canastota, Chittenango) The public is invited to pick up a free 2013 Erie Canalway National Heritage Corridor calendar at selected libraries and visitor centers throughout the National Heritage Corridor. Each month features one of 12 winning images from this year’s Erie Canalway photo contest. The calendar captures the unique beauty, history and character of New York’s canals and canal communities.

Fifteen thousand calendars will be available on a first-come, first-served basis, thanks to generous sponsorship by the state Canal Corporation and the Erie Canalway Heritage Fund.

In Madison County, calendars will be distributed at Canastota Public Library, 102 W. Center St., Canastota (315.697.7030) and Sullivan Free Library, 101 Falls Blvd., Chittenango (315.687.6331).

Sullivan Free Library Hosts Children’s Programs

(Chittenango) Sullivan Free Library Children’s Program Coordinator Marie Deegan hosts story hour for children 3 to 6 years old Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m. Hear stories, participate in rhymes, play games or make a craft to take home. Toddler Sing and Play is held Fridays at 10:30 a.m. – sing a variety of favorite songs, such as “Five Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed” and “Itsy Bitsy Spider” followed by unlimited play time.

Great Swamp Conservancy Announces New Fundraiser

The Great Swamp Conservancy is selling already discounted tickets to the Feb. 2 Syracuse Crunch vs. Rochester Americans hockey game.
