Some past pronouncements seem now to have been hopeful rather than realistic. However, I see a marked change in 2017 - company announcements have all been in the vein of - we have accomplished stuff (QD, Film, China Funding, Shares vote, Freschfield) for a highly successful first hundred days of Squires new presidency.
Most have expressed surprise at these announcements - they didn't see them coming. "Transparency" is more like a San Francisco foggy day. Squires promise of a quarterly report at the shareholders meeting is welcome, but I believe there will still be a lot that remains confidential. It must be in order for QMC to keep its competitive advantage by not disclosing what and who in specific they are working on, or with, so competition will not be timely able to counter their moves. In building IP resources, companies want to patent something before announcing it, unlike university researchers who publicize early advancements so that they can get funding to develop their ideas, and then patent it and find a partner.
My point is that QMC is much more than a (future) QD supplier to the display industry. There will be surprise announcements in LEDs, Batteries, Energy Storage, BIPV, Solar, Inks and printing technologies, anti-counterfeiting, catalysts materials, nanocrystals and nanoparticles of different nanomaterials, and new partners and applications derived from the above, such as automotive displays, lights, sensors, etc. We do not know when such things will be announced, but with a quantum dot that is environmentally stable against high temperatures (during manufacturing) and air (enabling easier printing technologies), having developed what they feel is a competitive QD film for the display industry, and having the ability to mass produce by automated process, all of the above fields are open to explore relationships and new products. As Yoda would say, "No one trick pony this!"
