Code Pink' Activists Face Jail Time For Sessions Hearing Disruptions
Three activists from the "Code Pink" social justice organization are facing up to a year in prison for demonstrating during Attorney General Jeff Sessions' confirmation hearing.
During the January hearing on Capitol Hill, activist Desiree Fairooz dressed as a pink statue of liberty and laughed loudly when Sen. Richard Shelby (R-Ala.) praised his then-colleague.
Shelby said Sessions, his Senate counterpart for many years, had a long record of treating Alabamians and Americans fairly and equally under the law.
Fairooz said she "couldn't hold it" and began laughing heartily from the gallery.
She was charged with disorderly conduct and demonstrating on Capitol grounds.
Two other "Code Pink" members, Barry Bianchi and Lenny Bianchi dressed as Ku Klux Klan members and stood up during the hearing.
The Bianchis were convicted of parading on Capitol grounds.
The three activists face up to one year in prison.
Fairooz said she did not plan on being arrested, but said the setback will not stop her from further protesting.
