I would say things have changed just a bit, in 1990, the world took on the current recognizable form of the internet that we use today, when you were fetching coffee in 93 people were waiting for the daily news to find out how they did, or calling their broker. It is all electronic, algorithm based. So the change in spread is somewhere in the algorithm. No one twisting their mustache, laughing as the get someone "caught in the middle". Its probably quite likely why d#%^& bags like that no longer exist. and the Keurig coffee was invented. Programming and innovation eliminated the need for you both.
(Just a quick edit,: This is meant to be funny, LOL)
