It doesn't work when you allow people to opt in or out. It's the principle of insurance, spread risk.
You THINK you could do better. But many people who thought the same thing learned differently in the fall of '08.
Actually, the Fall of '29 is what led to SS.
As for Medicare? Sure, you want to be helping your parents select private health insurance well into their 80's or 90's. Then you want to impose that on your kids or grandkids for......you.

Also recall what happened when Dubya tried to cash in his supposed 'political capital' and propose privatizing SS.
Good thing that the symbol for the GOP is the elephant. Shortest fucking memories in the political universe. Hopefully their future is the same as for Ringling Bros.
