Gingrich on White House Correspondents: Trump Is 'The End of Their World'
Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.) said President Trump represents the "end of the world" for the press.
He said Trump was in his element when he appeared in front of supporters 100 miles north of Washington, D.C. on the night of the White House Correspondents' dinner.
At the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex in Harrisburg, Pa., Trump mocked the press and said he would rather be with those assembled before him in the New Holland Ag arena.
"The people he was talking to in Pennsylvania are people who want to go back to core American values," Gingrich, a native of Harrisburg's Dauphin County, said.
Gingrich said the Trump supporters in Pennsylvania were "fed up" with mainstream outlets like the New York Times and CNN, Hollywood actors and academics.
"Donald J. Trump represents the end of their world," Gingrich said of the press.
He said the press is "deadly earnest" in forcing a left-wing ideology on the American people and are fearful that Trump could upend that plan.
Gingrich likened the press' interest in routinely criticizing Trump to the time he was once pictured on the front cover of a newsmagazine as the "Gingrich Who Stole Christmas."
