Spicer: Sanctuary Cities Have the 'Blood of Dead Americans on Their Hands'
After a federal judge blocked President Trump's attempt to cut off sanctuary city funding , White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer released a fiery statement, saying that sanctuary cities have the "blood of dead Americans on their hands."
"Today, the rule of law suffered another blow, as an unelected judge unilaterally rewrote immigration policy for our Nation," the statement read. "This case is yet one more example of egregious overreach by a single, unelected district judge. Today’s ruling undermines faith in our legal system and raises serious questions about circuit shopping."
On "America's Newsroom" today, Spicer said the law is clear that the president has the authority to cut off funding from cities that do not cooperate with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
He echoed Trump's sentiment that they will take the legal battle all the way to the Supreme Court, and they expect to win.
"I think as it goes through the Supreme Court, they will rule that the president was well within his legal right to do this," Spicer said. "I think anybody that's got a basic understanding of the Constitution and a basic reading of U.S. code would come to the same conclusion."
Bill Hemmer asked Spicer if the Ninth Circuit "has it in for" the Trump administration.
"I don't know that they have it in for the White House. I think they have a horrible record of interpreting the law," Spicer said. "And that's just a fact."
