Judge Nap: Why Trump's 'Defeat' on Sanctuary Cities Is a Temporary One
After a federal judge blocked President Trump's attempt to cut off sanctuary city funding, Trump on Wednesday accused political opponents of “judge shopping” in their bid to block some of his executive orders on immigration.
On "Fox & Friends" this morning, Judge Andrew Napolitano explained that Judge William Orrick ruled that federal funding "bears no meaningful relationship to immigration enforcement" and "cannot be threatened merely because a jurisdiction chooses an immigration enforcement strategy of which the president disapproves."
He said that Trump's "defeat," however, is a temporary one, and he revealed how the Trump administration will be able to cut off funding from cities that do not cooperate with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
"In October, the new fiscal year kicks in and the new grants will come out, and the new grants will be written by the present Congress and signed by President Trump, and they will have in them the requirement: You want the money, you cooperate with ICE. You don't cooperate with ICE, you don't get the money," Napolitano explained.
