Some background info for new visitors:
The January 30th Hong Kong PR announces increased funding for QMC Asia (QMCA), a second research and QD production site (Changde province), and a vision for rapidly affecting the China display industry through development of QD displays. Quotes are taken from the PR. The bolding is mine and highlights other industries of interest mentioned :
Guanghui Technology Group (GTG) - solar power generation and "also involved in a number of strategic investment projects in diversified fields such as Lighting, Li-ion battery, Biomedical and Security , etc."

The diversity of these industries is unified by one thing - their need for quantum dots. QMCA will be both QD production product sales and R&D incubator for future spinoff joint ventures and subsidiaries. In the United States, the National Nanotechnology Initiative developed the Nanotechnology Signature Initiatives to do something similar. Their are myriad publications and reports on the progress they achieved, and future plans. The problem is never settling on one approach and following through by working together. Instead, each award recipient plows on with their separate goal with no national coordination. QD Vision won many funding competitions and awards which succeeded only in keeping the company going for as long as the funding lasted, and which justified successive venture capital raises. The DOE never saw its role as facilitating industry development by participating in the genesis of new companies by combining their best abilities in one.
