What Jersey was referring to was the fact that those shares were granted as compensation for services provided, or in other words, salary.
When executives remain with a company even though they're being paid in shares of stock instead of a cashable check from payroll, it's a damn good indication that they are VERY confident that the stock will be appreciating nicely in value, and most likely sooner than later.
It makes it all well worth dipping into your available cash stash to cover living expenses when you know the reward will be not only be several times greater in value than what you pulled from that stash, but also several times greater than what you would've received as a cash payment.
