I spoke with my cousin's husband at length this morning. It appears that Tony and his team have been really working overtime and behind the scenes these last few months.
Just a few highlights:
- Stewart is all a buzz about a new international airline coming to their airport....a company called "US Global Airways" (lol....he never heard of "Baltia Air Lines" ).
- There is a $1.4 billion dollar infusion into the airport, with new roads, new buildings, a repaved runway, and a new terminal to be completed before the end of this year. Dennis tells me that one day you drive past an old building in the morning, and by the time you leave in the early evening that building has been leveled.
- Construction is going on right now.....there are at least 3 or 4 hotels being built just outside the airport that he has seen in just the last 2 months.
- There is a new exit off the Thruway with the sole purpose of bring traffice into the airport.
- Stewart Airport is going to be renamed "NY International Airport", and he sees hand-written promotional signs hanging around the offices that read "US Global Airways @ NY International Airport" (I asked him to send me pictures when he gets back to work, but he is off this coming week and will do so the week after).
- Casinos (4) are being built not far from the airport, and a "Lego Land" is coming. I looked it up....here is a link:

- Stewart has I believe the 2nd longest runway on the East Coast and is designated as the emergency landing airport for The Space Shuttle if Cape Canaveral is unavailable.
And most importantly,
- all of the businesses in the area.....the hotels, the restaurants, the Port Authority, the parking, the gas stations.....you name it......they are all working with each other to give out promotional deals and discounts with the goal of helping each other build up the area as a whole....as a group.... for future growth and revenues.
What Tony and his dynamic Staff have accomplished here is nothing short of AMAZING.
I'm starting to believe we will see his face plastered across some pretty important media before the end of this year.
Oh....and yes....Governor Cuomo and Senator Schumer are not only on board with this project, but are putting their support behind it......
