Not if you're about to sit on a 14-hour flight. It's worth going to a newer, cleaner airport with less drama than going to JFK/LGA/Newark. Plus, anyone in Jersey who wants to catch a flight overseas is going to use SWF if they can get a cost-competitive ticket. Why go through the Lincoln Tunnel into Manhattan when you can just drive north to SWF?
In reality, it doesn't matter who will use Stewart. All that matters is that the traffic there will be increasing RAPIDLY, far more rapidly than at JFK/LGA combined. And they can actually handle it. JFK is super-saturated, they're probably not going to be expanding anytime soon.
New Yorkers want luxury and quality. We're not used to having top-notch transportation or convenient access to airports (ever taken an Uber from Queens to LaGuardia during rush hour?....it's Hell...), so if we can use another airport to fly to China or Europe, then we'll do so.
As far as why Southwest isn't at SWF....who the fuck cares. You, me, and the rest of the investors here are focused on this company. Southwest doesn't fly out of many airports, and remember - it's a domestic airline. SWF wants international flights.
And don't count on SWF being midsize for much longer.
