The U.K.'s Daily Mail newspaper has agreed to pay damages and costs to Melania Trump over a story on false claims that a modeling agency she worked for operated as an escort agency.
Trump accepted the settlement and an apology from the newspaper at London's High Court.
The First Lady filed her lawsuit in September, seeking damages of at least $150 million, after a two-page spread in August included "false and defamatory statements."
The amount accepted by Trump was not disclosed in court, but it has been reported to be $2.9 million.
In its apology, the Daily Mail acknowledged it had published "allegations that she provided services beyond simply modeling."
"We accept that these allegations about Mrs. Trump are not true and we retract and withdraw them," the newspaper said in a statement. "We apologize to Mrs. Trump for any distress that our publication caused her."
