The Importance of a newspaper.. simply put, we

simply put, we live in a world of glass. we need to use the phone? we swipe our glass smartphone screen. need to look up a recipe? we swipe our glass iPad screen. want to play a game? 90% chance that game is behind a glass computer screen and not a physical game.
now more than ever, its imperative to exercise those brain cells by stimulating your senses with the touch, sound, and look of a real physical newspaper. it takes zero effort to google search a stock, swipe left, and boom.. all the info you need. youre completely removed as a human being from having to experience physical sensations in order to get to the results.
using a real newspaper requires handling something in physical form. you literally become one with the paper; opening it, holding it, creasing it so it doesnt fall in on itself... this current generation is missing out of the sensory input of actually touching something real.
when youre done with the paper, you fold it up and tuck it away somewhere. you may be done reading, but your accomplishment is still visible. youre able to see how the paper isnt freshly folded. its been used. you did your job. you can feel good about it.
now a days, when we're done reading a website, we close the laptop screen and its gone. nothing is left of our 'google search' except 'cookies' and 'temporary internet files'.
im convinced part of the problem we see with want-to-be investors is that there is simply TOO much information out there. minimal research and minimal effort is required. want to invest? simply go to iFlub, find the 'Hottest Stock' of the day, throw money in with the expectation to become rich in a week.
its an almost guarantee investors wouldnt throw money around as easily if they had to spend weeks researching a stock in the library, making phone calls, and reading a newspaper. today, its too easy to throw $100 here, $100 there.. oops.. my stock crashed.. ill throw $100 more in a new stock because someone said i should on iFlub... its a disaster waiting to happen.
gone are the days of humans being human. no more rotary phones where we actually felt the sensation in our fingertips to get that call through. no more human interactions. i saw 5 people walking down the street in a group today. all 5 were on their phones doing 'something'. ZERO communication between them at all. How is that 'human'?
I received a text message from an acquaintance today asking me if it was alright for him to call me. What does this even mean? We need permission prior to making a call?? Is this where society is headed? We're so afraid to communicate with other people, and we've become so closed off from each other that we have to 'prepare them' for our phone call beforehand.
Get a newspaper. if you cant afford one, read it at your library for free. it doesnt have to be every day. once a month is a fine start.
The more i think of it, the more grateful i become for all those paper cuts i got years ago while reading the newspaper.
