Multi-factor authentication to decrease phishing

DeKALB | Beginning April 10, Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) will be implemented on NIU’s email system.
Office365 will require both a password and a code texted to mobile phones for successful login. This change is due to a recent increased amount of phishing found in student’s emails.
By rolling over to MFA, those using NIU emails will be protected from identity theft and credit fraud. Students should expect daily emails alerting them of the upcoming change.
To make the transition smoother, users should download the Microsoft Authenticator and Outlook apps onto their phones. Both are available for Android and iPhone.
There will be a series of walk-in MFA support locations April 10 and 11. A list of all of these can be found at go.niu.edu/multifactor.
Students may also contact the Division of Information Technology Service Desk at (815) 753-8100 anytime 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. for phone-only support.
