Kennedy Blasts Kaine Over Syria Criticism: You Ran as VP With a 'Total Warmonger'

< >

Kennedy blasted Sen. Tim Kaine (D-VA) after he criticized President Donald Trump for ordering missile strikes against the Assad regime in Syria without approval by Congress.

Kaine told Fox News' Peter Doocy today that he does not believe Trump has legal or constitutional authority for this action, echoing the sentiments of Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY).

He argued that Congress must be allowed to debate and vote on military action against another nation.

Kennedy agreed with the idea of congressional approval, but argued that Kaine is "full of hot air" on the issue after running as VP alongside a "militarist" in Hillary Clinton.

"He was the vice presidential nominee of a total warmonger and I think Hillary Clinton would have used much less precision and done much more damage in the same kind of strikes against Syria," she said, pointing out that Clinton was in favor of a military campaign to oust Assad.

Kennedy said she hopes Trump remains skeptical of another Middle East ground war in Syria.

Juan Williams said Trump took quick action against Assad, but the big question is what the "fallout" will be in the region.

He pointed back to 2013 when Barack Obama sought approval from Congress to strike the Assad regime following a chemical attack and never received it.
