I'm am a bit familiar with options, but wouldn't even take a stab at it since I'm not even a novice.
You make a good point though for those that want to build in a hedge.
Hate saying it, but another way is to short OWCP is you can get the shares to borrow. I'm not advocating it, but can be done.
I play stocks long the way most do. Buy low and hopefully sell high.
