$HEMP SPRING HOPE, NC--(Marketwired - Apr 4, 2017)
Post# of 2218
David Schmitt, Chief Operating Officer of Hemp, Inc.'s wholly owned subsidiary, Industrial Hemp Manufacturing, LLC, said the Commission will review and approve applications that have met the criteria of showing evidence of income from a farming operation. Under the program, state agriculture agents will monitor and test the hemp crops to make sure they do not contain more than .30% THC. Industrial hemp growers will have to report each acre to the state and give precise locations using GPS.
"We've gotten a lot of interest in this program and we're looking forward to getting this program underway," said Schmitt. According to news sources, there will be no public comments taken into consideration during this meeting.
Schmitt has also been advising farmers interested in growing industrial hemp in the state of North Carolina to join the North Carolina Industrial Hemp Association (NCIHA) as a paid member. Having paid members strengthens the North Carolina Industrial Hemp Association (NCIHA), as it was instrumental in getting hemp legislation passed in North Carolina. The North Carolina General Assembly passed Senate Bill 313 in 2015, allowing the creation of the Industrial Hemp Commission to develop the rules and licensing structure necessary to stay within federal laws. The Industrial Hemp Commission adopted temporary rules in February to set up the application requirements and process.
While there will be some applications approved on Thursday, there is still time to apply for those who are interested. To obtain an application, go to www.ncagr.gov/hemp and click on the application link. There has been no deadline set to apply for this pilot program, as of yet.

Hemp, Inc. previously reported that its wholly owned subsidiary, Industrial Hemp Manufacturing, LLC has already committed to just over 3,055 acres of industrial hemp for the 2017 crop. Schmitt has already signed Letters of Intent with numerous farmers and is expecting to have all contracts for the 2017 growing season finalized within the next 30 days, contingent on the farmers receiving their license from the North Carolina Department of Agriculture.
ABOUT NORTH CAROLINA INDUSTRIAL HEMP ASSOCIATION
The 900-member North Carolina Industrial Hemp Association (NCIHA) is a 501(c)(6) trade organization that represents all the stakeholders helping to build a thriving hemp industry in North Carolina. The NCIHA is responsible for the lobbying effort behind the passage of the North Carolina Industrial Hemp Pilot Program. Through education, dedication and fundraising, North Carolina can be accelerated to the forefront of global growth in Industrial and Medicinal Hemp. North Carolina can and should lead the country in cultivation, processing and support the consumption of hemp's many beneficial products. Hemp was, for almost 200 years, a legal and fundamental crop in North Carolina and should be again.
