RICHMOND, Va., April 05, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- GRID2020, Inc., a leading distribution transformer monitoring solutions provider, announced today that it has successfully added Verizon LTE cellular communications to its patented intra-grid sensor solution suite.
“We are excited to have our foundational US cellular communications work completed. Among several key upsides, this latest achievement allows us to deliver nearly instantaneous transformer-level Outage Notifications to electricity operators, thus accelerating their ability to promptly restore power to consumers.” said Alan Snook, President of GRID20/20.
The company initially completed integration and certification of AT&T cellular communications giving it solid footing in the U.S. and global markets. But given that both Verizon and AT&T are required to effectively blanket the U.S. market, the company expanded its cellular-based OptaNODE TM intra-grid sensor communications platforms.
According to U.S. Energy Information Administration data, U.S. distribution grids collectively experienced over $20.7 billion of unmetered electricity loss in 2014. This equates to over 199 billion kilowatt hours of electricity loss occurring between substations and endpoint meters. It is this type of substantial loss that GRID20/20 can help to reveal for utility operators using its patented OptaNODE TM intra-grid sensor solution.
Snook commented, “Virtually every electricity distribution provider on the planet is suffering from significant loss occurring within the heart of their grid. The staggering U.S. loss data is not uncommon as grids throughout the world suffer similarly, but this loss can no longer be overlooked or unattended given the emergence of our cost-effective technology.”
Electricity providers typically subsidize their power loss across rate payer’s bills. While rate payers are not consuming the unmetered power loss, they are typically subsidizing the cost. This cost burden is no longer necessary for consumers given the pioneering upsides provided by versatile intra-grid sensors.
Besides helping utilities to identify substantial unmetered power loss, GRID20/20 simultaneously assists with intra-grid voltage monitoring, reverse energy impact monitoring created by renewables (e.g., solar, wind), proactive asset maintenance to lessen unplanned power outages, identifying undetected power theft, and a growing list of powerful value propositions.
By offering the easiest to install devices in its class, GRID20/20’s patented sensor technology delivers a vast, growing list of meaningful solutions for electric utility operators worldwide.
