In Canada, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau this year announced a carbon tax, and vowed to power all federal departments with renewable energy by 2025.
“There’s a reason we have ‘Living Skies,’ on our license plates,” Mike Marsh, chief executive of SaskPower, told a keynote lunch at the solar conference. “The sky is clear most of the year. We were blessed with coal, oil, and gas, but we were also blessed with sun and wind. We also have a lot of space. Where there is space, there is opportunity.”
“We want to make sure we can sleep at night.”
Ultimately, arithmetic could propel the solar industry to the mainstream in Canada. “A lot of people are going to start going off the grid,” Reinelt said. “It’s coming down the highway like that little light in the tunnel.”
