A NC Restaurant Is Seeing More Business After It Banned Kids Under 5

An Italian restaurant in Mooresville, North Carolina, made headlines last week for banning children under the age of five.

Yoshi Nunez, the manager of Caruso’s, joined the "Fox & Friends" co-hosts this morning to explain what sparked the controversial policy.

Nunez said that several months ago, a young girl was using an iPad with the volume on high in the dining room. Despite repeated requests from the staff to turn the volume down, the parents refused, and the family was eventually asked to leave.

He said that Caruso's is a fine dining establishment, and they want to ensure that their patrons are not disrupted by loud or unruly children.

The ban — conceived by the restaurant’s owner, Pasquale Caruso, and instated in January — was picked up in the news last week and created a social media firestorm.

Surprisingly, Caruso's has since seen a dramatic increase in reservations, Nunez said.

Nunez, a father of two himself, said the policy is not anti-kid or anti-family.

Instead, he said, they are trying to create an elegant atmosphere for adults and older kids who want to have a relaxed evening out.

Despite some complaints, Nunez said that he thinks most people understand the purpose of the ban, and that's why their business has not been adversely affected.

"When you go out and spend good money on dinner, a bottle of wine, it's grown-up time," he said.
