Pump and dumps I've seen are over in hours, OWCP has been trading at roughly the current price for weeks. Some of the stocks I've seen in other pump and dumps had some legitimate reason to believe they'd move up, but most were purely hype by one or more stock advisory sites that build up the fact that they'll have a new selection on a specific date, at a specific time. Of course the ones with the greatest gain are those making the recommendation, as they've purchased before the recommendation hits, and they sell as soon as they see buying interest diminishing.
Of course their are other similar advisory letters that are less the pump and dump, and more the advisory based on known upcoming events, but they're similar in that the originator generally buys at slightly less than those advised to buy, and whether he holds for a day, week, month or even year generally sells for slightly more than his followers, who do the same. I don't consider this a pump and dump, but if the originator books a 5% to 10% gain, the followers are often lucky to book a zero to 5% gain, as they rarely can equal the gains of the originator.
Of course, either of these schemes can make money for those who follow the leader. The big losers are those who don't get the original word, but see the excitement in the stock and get in just before selling tanks the stock.
I can understand those who follow investor's newsletters and make money. What I really can't understand is the Analyst's who routinely speak on CNN, etc where their prior recommendations are shown, and they're all big losers, yet they're making new recommendation, and people follow. Most of these Analysts work for brokerages, and just by sheer coincidence their brokerages aren't just making markets in the recommended companies, they're often doing new offerings for them.
I don't see OWCP in any of the above scenarios. I see it as a company that brought together key people who've been developing uses for cannabis over years in the country that's welcomed such development. I see it as a group which with limited funds is capable of bringing products to market through strategic partnerships that permit them to earn a substantial portion of the sales price of the product without having the expense of manufacturing, distributing and selling the product. I believe that their business plan will permit initial products to be brought to market without full efficacy testing, but the testing will be sufficient to know their products work, and are safe. After initial product sales produce the revenue needed for more complete efficacy trials, I believe the company will fully establish efficacy of certain products and have them approved as drugs which are only available at higher prices by prescription, and yes, I believe that eventually the approvals will come from the FDA meaning they can be used everywhere in the U.S., not just State's that permit medical marijuana.
I believe that a blind person could see that cannabis is becoming more acceptable all over the world for at least limited benefits, and the FDA is not blind to the positive things it's doing, nor is the U.S. Congress. Certainly, nowhere near every cannabis based product will be recognized as being of benefit and approved by the FDA, but I believe that OWCP is developing some of those that will be.
