Tucker Battles Dem Strategist Over Alleged Spying on Trump Team
Tucker Carlson clashed with a Democratic strategist tonight over the bombshell charges that the Obama administration collected and spread information from surveillance of President Trump’s transition team.
Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA), the chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, said Wednesday that some of the communications of the Trump transition team were "monitored" after the election as part of an "incidental collection."
Tucker pointed out that the reaction to this whole story has been extremely partisan, with Democrats sounding the alarm about possible ties between the Trump team and Russia, and Republicans focusing on the sources of the illegal intelligence leaks.
"Both may be missing the actual scandal, which the political use of classified intelligence to hurt people," Tucker said.
Richard Goodstein, who's worked as a strategist in D.C. for decades, pushed back when Tucker likened this situation to Watergate.
He pointed out that the the alleged surveillance of Trump team members appears to be totally legal, and there is no known connection to President Obama.
Tucker insisted it's a "plausible claim" that Trump and his associates were under surveillance by agencies overseen by the Obama White House.
Goodstein said he is bothered by intelligence agencies misusing their authority, but he's "profoundly bothered" by lawmakers and pundits shifting the focus away from possible collusion between Trump associates and Russia.
"You guys are making this purely partisan, when there's something much more at stake, which is the integrity of our government," Tucker fired back.
