Gorsuch: 'No Such Thing as a Republican or Democrat Judge, Just Judges'
At his confirmation hearing this morning, Supreme Court nominee Neil Gorsuch pushed back against the idea of politically motivated judges in the United States.
Senate Judiciary Committee chairman Chuck Grassley (R-IA) noted the broad support for Gorsuch's impartiality on the bench and asked whether he'd have any issue ruling against the president who appointed him.
"There's no such thing as a Republican judge or a Democratic judge. We just have judges in this country," the 10th Circuit appellate judge said.
Gorsuch pointed to the judicial philosophy of former Supreme Court Justice Byron White, who simply said, "I decide cases."
"I keep an open mind through the entire process as best as I humanly can and I leave all the other stuff at home. I make a decision based on the facts and the law," he said.
