2017 has been a great year for cord cutters, and it is only getting better. New live TV streaming service competition is on the horizon with Hulu and YouTube’s services getting close to release, and the war among Sling, PlayStation Vue, and DIRECTV NOW heats up.
Recently Sling TV fired a huge shot at DIRECTV NOW by offering four of its most popular add-ons for just $10—a $10 savings over buying them separately. Right in its blog about the deal it shows Sling TV offering more channels at a lower price than DIRECTV NOW.
DIRECTV NOW responded by offering free HBO to all current subscribers and a free year for anyone who gets its Go Big or Gotta Have it packages.
We have even seen both Sling TV and DIRECTV NOW offering deals for free devices—everything from a free Roku Express to a free Apple TV fourth generation.
PlayStation Vue has responded by adding CBS stations for most of its supported markets.
This just goes to show that when there is real competition the consumer wins. In this case the winners are cord cutters as the services fight to offer bigger and better services to attract cord cutters.
Hopefully as more services such as Hulu and YouTube release live TV services, bigger and better deals will continue to come out for cord cutters.
