My opinion: It's mostly a PR move. There's a lot of anxiety in the investor community about reverse splits; this serves as reassurance. It's also a statement about long-term confidence in the company. Let's say, just for purposes of discussion (I'm not suggesting this is the case) that Jerry decided to return 25M of his own shares to the treasury. That would bring his total down to 75M, I think. This move basically amounts to a statement of massive confidence in the company. If the stock hits, say, $5/share, he'll be doing fine with his 75M, right? It gets a lot more meaningful if the stock stays at ten cents.
I read this move to be saying, The sky's the limit, folks. Fasten your seat belts and get on board.
