In 1986 I was making $7.90 per hour as a licensed professional ...
In 1974 working as a service station attendant I started at $0.80 per hour and went to $1.20 after 90 days plus a small commission. Worked 60 hours per week, got paid time and 1/2 after 80 in a 2 week period. Take home was about $100 per week. I received 3.75% on the money I had in the bank. Soda was $0.15. Movie for 2 plus drinks and popcorn was about $7. Dinner out was $10. Tank of gas for the week was $8. Insurance for car was about $1 per day. Car payment on a 2 year old car was $89. Monthly in come $400. Expenses $219. Leaving $179 per month. Had I rented at 16. Rent would have been $125, utilities $15, phone $15 there was no such think as cable or cell phones where I lived. Which would left me with $24. In 77 when I graduated. I was making $2.35 per hour and moved out. In June 1977 when I turned 18 I bought the business. Made great money until 1979. The nutter land came $1.50 gas over night and price went through the roof.
