The Meek Shall Inherit The Earth
The Meek Shall Inherit the Earth - from Jesus' Beatitudes/Sermon on The Mount continued.....
Let's look at the word meek for a moment. It certainly doesn't sound like a character trait we'd all like to aim for now does it? When we think of meek we think of weak. This is not the case however. In fact I found the perfect Greek descriptive for the word meek from The Bible Hubb:
"This difficult-to-translate root (pra-) means more than "meek." Biblical meekness is not weakness but rather refers to exercising God's strength under His control – i.e. demonstrating power without undue harshness."
Strength under God's control which of course also means having a quiet strength and confidence in Him too. Meekness is a "mental attitude", according to Emmet Fox's "The Sermon on The Mount" that will also bring prosperity to you, in other words, the inheriting of the earth.
If you read Psalm 37, you will get more of an idea of how to be as a person in order to inherit the earth. Here are a few passages I plucked from this beautiful Psalm.
In order to inherit the earth, and all the wonderful stuff that God has in store for you, you must have a mental attitude of Meekness and this means that you "do not get jealous of others' success, don't let evil people upset you, don't be jealous of those who do wrong because like the grass they will soon dry up" - Psalm 37:1-2).
"Enjoy serving the Lord (to be under His control) and he will give you what you want (inherit)" - Psalm 37:4
"People who are not proud will inherit the land and will enjoy complete peace." - Psalm 37:11
"Good people will inherit the land and will live in it forever...(So what does being a good person mean?) It means, "A good person speaks with wisdom and he says what is fair. The teachings of his God are in his heart, so he does not fail to keep them." - Psalm 29-31
