What if.....the health insurance companies went away?
If you're employed let's say that whatever you were having deducted for healthcare was now the same as FICA, except that the government now pays for your healthcare just as if you were on Medicare. Very low co-pays, low deductibles.
Let's bring the insurance companies back into the picture. They can sell you supplementary converge that you see advertised on TV every year.
Lose your job? Medicaid is expanded to cover you until you find a new job.
A little free market, but mostly government paid coverage,
Companies save a bundle, become more competitive with foreign companies, and plow some of that 'surplus' into higher wages.
Now let's use all of that government coverage as leverage to lower prescription drug prices, just as Medicare does.
That's the future. It will take the wider, much wider, pain of Trumpcare to get what I've described on the table for debate.
Single payer is the end game. That's the Occam's Razor solution, or the 'stop dicking around' solution.
