President Donald Trump went after rapper Snoop Dogg on Twitter this morning over the new music video in which the president is shot.
In the video for "BADBADNOTGOOD," Snoop Dogg raps about police brutality in a world of clowns, with Trump shown as a clown in chains.
Snoop, aka Calvin Broadus Jr., is then seen next to the clown Trump, firing a toy handgun.
The president declared Snoop Dogg's career to be "failing," as he fired off the tweet at 7am ET this morning.
"Can you imagine what the outcry would be if @SnoopDogg, failing career and all, had aimed and fired the gun at President Obama? Jail time!" the president wrote.
Snoop Dogg commented to Billboard on his reasoning for the video portrayal of Trump as a clown:
When I be putting s**t out, I don’t ever expect or look for a reaction. I just put it out because I feel like it’s something that’s missing. Any time I drop something, I’m trying to fill in a void. I feel like it’s a lot of people making cool records, having fun, partying, but nobody’s dealing with the real issue with this fucking clown as president, and the shit that we dealing with out here, so I wanted to take time out to push pause on a party record and make one of these records for the time being.
The rap legend has taken a lot of heat for the video, including from Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL), who said presidential assassinations should not be joked about.
"[If] the wrong person sees that and gets the wrong idea, you could have a real problem," he said.
The Secret Service said it's aware of the video, but it's unclear if an investigation will be initiated, TMZ reported.
