Conservative filmmaker Dinesh D’Souza is not upset about President Donald Trump forcing U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara out of office.
That’s because Bharara, who ran the Southern District office in New York, prosecuted D’Souza for felony election fraud in 2014, which led to a plea bargain and a sentence of eight months in federal prison.
Bharara was portrayed by some as a political martyr because he was “fired” after he refused the Trump administration’s request to resign along with the remaining 45 Obama appointees in the U.S. Attorney slots.
On "Fox & Friends" this morning, D'Souza ripped Bharara as a "ruthless and very deceitful" prosecutor, who went after him with a purely "political prosecution."
“No American has ever been convicted or prosecuted, let alone locked up, for doing what I did,” D’Souza said.
He claimed that Bharara "altered the facts" and "conned the judge" into sentencing him to prison, which goes to show "the kind of deceitful man that he is."
D’Souza said Bharara has become a “media darling” simply because he "grandstanded" and forced the administration to fire him.
"He's kind of acting like he's some sort of martyr, but of course, presidents have a right to appoint their own guys," D'Souza said.
"For me, this is actually kinda nice. When I was in confinement, Bharara was laughing. Now that he’s unemployed, I’m kind of laughing."
