Elizabeth Warren Explains To Republicans How Capitalism Is Supposed To Work
By Jason Easley on Wed, Mar 8th, 2017 at 10:36 am
Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) explained to Republicans why a government that is run by corporations and only interested helping corporate interests doesn't create a strong and free market during an interview on MSNBC.
Warren said, “Look, I am all in favor of corporations making a profit, so long as they aren’t doing it by cheating their customers. I’m all in favor of corporations flourishing in this country, but I think they ought to have to pay their fair share in taxes.
A market without rules. A market without a cop on the beat may produce some extraordinary profits for a handful of giant corporations, but it will not make this economy work overall, and ultimately will not produce the kind of competitive market that really makes capitalism grow in this country.
I want corporations to do well. I just want them to follow the rules, and frankly, I just don’t that’s too unreasonable.”
Sen. Warren was correct. Over time have gone from being the free market party to the big corporation party. Republicans under Trump are taking economic resources and redistributing them upwards towards the wealthy and corporations. Corporate concentration a giving the largest competitors in a market the most advantages is anti-free market.
When citizens only have a choice between 3 or 4 national airlines or one or two Internet providers in their town, that is the opposite of free market economics at work. When big corporations buy up their competitors to dominate the market, that stifles competition.
Billionaires and corporate interests are controlling the Executive Branch and the majority in the Legislative Branch of the federal government.
As Sen. Warren correctly stated, Trumpanomics will not produce competitive markets and higher wages. It is a system that is designed to make government work for those at the top.
What Trump is selling isn’t capitalism, which is why it was necessary for Sen. Warren to give Republicans a crash course in how the free market is supposed to work.
