Rep. Brady: GOP Health Care Bill Isn't 'ObamaCare Lite,' It's 'ObamaCare Gone'
House Republicans this week released their plan for an Obamacare replacement, calling it the American Health Care Act, and they quickly came under fire from both the right and the left.
A number of conservative Republican lawmakers held a press conference on Tuesday to express some of the differences they have with the proposed health care bill, calling it "ObamaCare lite."
Meantime, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) slammed it as the "Make America Sick Again" act.
On "The First 100 Days" tonight, Rep. Kevin Brady (R-Texas), one of the architects behind the GOP's controversial health care law, said there's a clear choice between sticking with ObamaCare and following through on President Trump's promise of repealing and replacing the health care law.
"The real opponent is ObamaCare and those like Nancy Pelosi who continue to defend this collapsing bill," Brady said.
He said that he has been open to and will be open to feedback from his Republican colleagues, but he disagrees with the argument that his bill is simply "ObamaCare lite."
"Take a look at the bill itself," Brady said. "It repeals all the taxes, all the mandates, all the penalties, all the subsidies. This is ObamaCare gone. And there's no arguing about that."
As for the replacement part of the plan, he said they are focusing on state control and restoring the free market.
"This won't be the last step. We have to go farther than this," Brady said. "That will require hard work for Republican and conservatives together."
