World’s Most Advanced Lightweight & Compact Ku Antenna Transforms Remote & Temporary Satellite Communications

WASHINGTON and SAN ANTONIO, March 06, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Remote wireless communications just got a whole lot easier and faster as Carnegie Technologies announced today the debut of the world’s first Foldable Ku Antenna for satellite communications.  The Foldable Ku Antenna uses the most advanced technologies and materials available today to create the most powerful Ku-band antenna small enough to fit into a backpack and easy enough for one man to carry, assemble and link in just a couple of minutes.  The announcement was made at the Satellite 2017 industry conference in Washington, D.C. running today through March 9 th

Carnegie Technologies developed the Foldable Ku Antenna in a partnership with the Southwest Research Institute ®  (SwRI ® ), a United States defense contractor and one of the oldest and largest independent, nonprofit, applied research and development organizations in the United States.  The antenna’s revolutionary design uses rugged UV-stabilized PVC with metalized reflector surfaces to deliver Ultra High Throughput Ku-band transmissions more quickly and easily than ever before.

“In all my years in this industry, I haven’t seen anything so compact and powerful as this for Ku satellite transmission,” said Anthony Navarra, who works as an industry consultant and new business development for Carnegie Technologies.  “Carnegie has always been known to bring together the best technologies and the brightest minds to deliver game-changing products and services to the marketplace, and the debut of the Ku antenna and the SatBridge satellite hotspot are proof of that mission and commitment.”

“Our Ku Antenna is perfect for things like remote oil drilling operations sending sample data for analysis, military reconnaissance operations sending encrypted photos, first responders monitoring wildfires and floods, or media outlets that need small, highly mobile crews to cover breaking news events,” said Paul Struhsaker, CTO of Carnegie Technologies.   “We wanted to expand the options and reduce the costs to make communications possible in the most remote and extreme circumstances when you need to quickly set up, send and receive transmissions, pack up and move on.”

Specifications of the Foldable Ku Antenna include:

  • Expected Rx gain:  37-39 dB
  • Expected Tx gain:  37-39 dB
  • Packaged size:  fits inside standard laptop backpack
  • Assembled size:  40” x 40” x 1” (L x W x H)
  • Weight:  ~20 lbs.

Industry applications include:

  • Oil & Gas Exploration
  • Off-Shore Drilling
  • Remote Construction
  • Mining
  • Archeological/Geological Research
  • Military
  • Public Safety
  • Mass Media
