O'Reilly: Democrats' 'Hypocrisy is on Full Display' in Sessions Case
In his Talking Points Memo on Thursday, Bill O'Reilly said Democrats who were calling for Attorney General Jeff Sessions to recuse himself or resign his post are being hypocritical, citing their collective silence when an attorney general in their own party faced controversy.
"Not one single Democrat in Congress called for then-Attorney General Loretta Lynch to recuse herself from the Hillary Clinton [email] investigation, after she met with Bill Clinton at a Phoenix airport," O'Reilly said.
Earlier Thursday, Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-New York) called for Sessions' resignation, and several other Democrats called for him to recuse himself from the FBI's probe of possible contact between the Trump campaign and Russia.
"Once again, their hypocrisy is on full display," O'Reilly said, and criticized Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) for echoing Schumer's sentiment.
O'Reilly called Russian hacking during the election a serious issue, and said that there are important questions to be asked of Sessions.
However, he said that Sen. Al Franken's (D-Minn.) question to Sessions during his confirmation hearing, which sparked the controversy, was about Sessions' role as a Trump surrogate, not as an Alabama senator.
O'Reilly said he agreed with Sessions' ultimate decision to recuse himself from the investigation, and said FBI Director Jim Comey should bring any evidence in his probe before members of Congress.
"The American people should want to know if there were any secret dealings with the Russians during the campaign," he said.
