I use schwab. love it too.
schwab trades are at 6.95 and offer high yield checking account linked for free. Free ATM fees no matter what ATM you use (end of the month they reimburse all ATM fees and schwab does not charge any fees on their end) and free bill pay like everyone else. They just are not a brick a motor bank. There are locations to go into and talk to people, but all banking etc. is done online or by mail. This is how they are able to offer such low fees or no fees at all. I also have yet to be restricted to buy a stock of my choice. Some brokerage firms will not let you purchase certain penny stocks and sub penny stocks because they are "protecting" their investors from the risk.
I have a bias view point because I am limited to what firms I can trade with and I am not allowed to use there high end trading software that they offer everyone for free. I would have to pay a few hundred a month... years ago when working in the financial industry I was forced to choose between wells fargo or schwab in order for my company to track all my trades. I hear e-trade is good, but I would not know about other brokerage firms (except for dealing with them behind the scenes on a b2b basis). FINRA and SEC are no joke when it comes to background checks and fraud etc. ... but Just so everyone knows, I no longer work for my company as I trade from my own home with my own money only. I also do not provide investment advice to anyone, anymore. I just speak my mind and opinions. As Jagr aka Joey68 always says... Do your own DD and make your own decisions and purchases off of your own intel.
