Tony came in with a vision for the company, found out its niche and how it could be successful and developed a plan around it. He is executing his plan by associating with some of the best in the industry (Connie Kalitta and John Lampl to name a few) getting financing in order, and moving fast with his plan.
Mulally did the same, he looked at what Ford was doing, looked at what made it such a successful brand, made a list of things to change and enacted, doing things such as hiring talent away from Mazda (James Farley) and re-directing the company to focus on Ford and making vehicles affordable to all. We can all see the outcome of Ford—able to save itself without government help, growing market share and innovating with the best, running lean to adapt to the market quickly.
IMO, Tony is doing everything in the same manner in order to get this company to certification and beyond and is showing his leadership skills through the accomplishments achieved thus far, same as Alan Mulally.
I love the direction we are going that has been shared in the PR today, to take advantage of the open skies agreement to go after under served routes. The direct route from JFK and St. Petersburg shows such an opportunity (BLTA’s direct route could cut almost 3 hours off the travel). If we are going after routes like that…very exciting and generalizing the business plan to any route under served reduces diversifies risk by not relying on one area of routes.
Looking forward to more coming from the company and the shareholders meeting.
