A Special Prosecutor for What?': Spicer Dismisses Call for New Russia Probe

White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer pushed back this afternoon on the calls for an independent investigation into President Donald Trump's alleged contact with Russian officials.

On Friday night, Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA) said a special prosecutor should handle the probe and that Attorney General Jeff Sessions, a close adviser to Trump, should remove himself from the process.

Spicer dismissed the need for an independent investigation, claiming there is "nothing new" to be looked at.

"A special prosecutor for what?" Spicer asked.

ABC's Jonathan Karl answered that the investigation would look at the Russian interference in the election and possible contact with Trump's campaign.

Karl asked whether Spicer could "categorically deny" that there was any contact.

"How many people have to say that there's nothing there before you realize that there's nothing there?" Spicer answered, maintaining that the investigations have been done.

Spicer said the House, Senate and the intelligence community have looked at the issue and that there is "nothing to further investigate."

Spicer pointed out that House Intelligence Committee Chairman Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA) dismissed the allegations of coordination between the Trump campaign and Russia.

"We still have not seen any evidence that anyone from the Trump campaign, or any other campaign for that matter, has communicated with the Russian government," Nunes said Monday.
