Harvard Law Professor Alan Dershowitz was a guest on "Fox & Friends Weekend" Sunday reacting to Tom Perez being named the new chair of the Democratic National Committee.
The Democrats voted 235-200 Saturday in favor of the former labor secretary under President Barack Obama. Perez defeated U.S. Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN) and then immediately named Ellison deputy chair.
In an op-ed for The Hill, Dershowitz, a high-profile Democrat for decades, said he would leave the party if Ellison were elected chairman.
"The Ellison defeat is a victory in the war against bigotry, anti-Semitism, the anti-Israel push of the hard left within the Democratic Party," said Dershowitz, who added that he wishes Perez did not give Ellison any role within the party.
Dershowitz said he fears that Republicans are moving too far to the right and Democrats are moving too far to the left.
"We have to return to the vital center and have debates between centrist liberals and centrist conservatives," he said. "That's where our country is."
