Six states are banding together in an effort to limit the power and reach of the federal government.

Alabama, Alaska, Florida, Georgia, Indiana and Tennessee are calling for a constitutional convention to consider up to nine amendments to the Constitution.

Jonathan Serrie reported on "America's Newsroom" that these states want to curb what they see as overreach by the federal government, including everything from ObamaCare to environmental regulation.

"Among some of their proposals: giving a supermajority of states the power to override federal laws or even Supreme Court rulings," Serrie said.

He explained that Article V of the U.S. Constitution allows a minimum of two-thirds of the states to call for a convention to propose amendments.

Serrie pointed out that it has never been done before, so this would be breaking new ground if they were to get two-thirds of the states - 28 more - onboard.

"Georgia State Rep. Buzz Brockway says even if their efforts fail to produce a convention of states, just the effort in and of itself could put enough pressure on Congress to pass some meaningful legislation."
