COLUMBIA, S.C., Feb. 24, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The South Carolina Auctioneers Association (SCAA) crowned its Annual Grand Champion Auctioneer at the Hilton Hotel, Columbia, SC on Saturday night, February 18 during the Annual SCAA Convention. This year’s bid calling champion is Randy Ligon of Rock Hill, SC. Ligon competed against 6 other auctioneers from across the state to take this year’s championship.

Ligon is a commercial Real Estate Broker and Auctioneer. A Clemson and Missouri Auction School graduate, he has worked in numerous states nationwide since 1987. Ligon is also an accomplished Benefit Auctioneer and a graduate of the Certified Auctioneers Institute at the University of Indiana.
Ligon is an active member, and the past President of the South Carolina Auctioneers Association and noted he is “honored to receive the Championship from the state and I look forward to serving the South Carolina Auctioneer’s Association both now and in the future.”
The event grades auctioneers on chant, rhythm, presence and auction ability. Competitors also face an interview question to measure their industry knowledge. For decades, this event has brought bid callers from every corner of South Carolina to compete for the title.

The winner will go on to be the face of the South Carolina Auctioneers Association for the next 12 months. Ligon faces his next challenge when he represents the SCAA at the International Championship Competition held this year in Columbus, Ohio in July.
