(Nasdaq: LWAY ) announced today that the company will begin using green polyethylene, a material that is made of sugarcane, a renewable resource, for its Lifeway Organic product line. The shift from standard polyethylene to a more sustainable packaging alternative enables Lifeway to significantly reduce the level of greenhouse gas emissions associated with its operations.
A thermoplastic resin, Lifeway’s new green polyethylene bottles are recyclable and use plant-based materials instead of fossil-based. By choosing a greener alternative in packaging, Lifeway is fulfilling a crucial component of its mission, which includes environmental sustainability as well as the company’s commitment to: using only all-natural, hormone- and GMO-free ingredients, global philanthropy, responsible sourcing and renewable energy initiatives.
