O'Reilly: Sanctuary City Mayor, Police Chief 'Have
Post# of 51167
Bill O'Reilly reacted tonight to a shocking new poll that found Americans overwhelmingly oppose sanctuary cities, and he reported on two incidents in Denver, Colorado, that spotlight why that might be the case.
O'Reilly noted that the survey - which was conducted by Harvard–Harris Poll and published in The Hill - was an online poll, so it must be approached with some skepticism.
Nevertheless, he said, it found that 80 percent of voters say local authorities should have to comply with the law by reporting to federal agents the illegal immigrants they come into contact with.
It also found that 53 percent of voters support a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border and the suspension of the refugee resettlement program, respectively, and 51 percent think the number of Syrian refugees admitted to the U.S. should be lower.
"If the polling is accurate, the Harvard survey is a stunning rebuke to the liberal sanctuary city movement," O'Reilly said.
He said he believes a majority of Americans oppose sanctuary cities because illegal immigrant crime occurs with a troubling frequency.
O'Reilly said this can be spotlighted by two recent cases in Denver County, Colorado.
Norland Estrada-Reyes, an illegal immigrant from Honduras who has had a number of run-ins with the law, was released by the Denver Country Sheriff's Office, despite ICE asking that he be held.
After his release, Estrada-Reyes allegedly struck and killed 28-year-old Karina Pulec with his car, and he now faces multiple felonies.
O'Reilly said that Ever Valles, an illegal immigrant from Mexico and known gang member, was also released by the Denver Country Sheriff's Office, despite a request from ICE.
Earlier this month, Valles and another man allegedly shot 32-year-old Tim Cruz to death at a light rail station, and he now faces a murder charge.
O'Reilly said that Denver Country Sheriff Patrick Firman and Denver Mayor Michael Hancock "have blood on their hands" for their sanctuary city policy.
