Apparently neither Milton nor you remembered NASA or the CDC for starters.
The Gubment doesn't flame out at everything they do but they flame out so much that when the Gubment is successful it is kinda like the old blind hog finding an acorn.

Can you point out the 'Federal control of education for five years'? I missed that.
It could be that instead of "control" maybe something like "Make them an offer they can't refuse" would be more appropriate.

For what it's worth, and I certainly don't overvalue it, the public HS graduation rate is at an all time high.
I certainly don't overvalue it either, In fact, I find it a joke. I wonder just what percentage of today's graduates would even be on par with the ninth grade crowd we ran around with way back when. To give an example of what I'm talking about, A couple of months back I was a one of my favorite breakfast joints around Lake Murray and while eating I was discussing sailboats with a friend. I mentioned to him that I had noticed that a well kept and reasonably priced Valiant sailboat had just hit the market in Texas. Our waitress, a soon to be graduate said to us, "Well, I can see why they would want to sell it. Where could you sail in Texas?" When I told her that the Gulf of Mexico could hold some pretty large boats, she immediately got out her phone and brought up a map and I will never forget the look on her face when she saw that you could indeed enjoy the sport of sailing in Texas.

If a GOPER were president, would he not he be taking credit for that and would not his supporters be clapping for it?
Alas, you could be right. Over the years I think I can recall a few times when a POTUS took credit when credit was not due. I think I even remember Bill Clinton doing that once or twice.
