NYT: Protests, Celeb Critics Could Push Moderate Conservatives Toward Trump

According to The New York Times, liberal protests against President Donald Trump could be having the effect of pushing moderate conservatives closer to the president.

On Monday, thousands of protesters nationwide took to the streets during "Not My President's Day" rallies to express their opposition to Trump.

As the article states:

"Protests and righteous indignation on social media and in Hollywood may seem to liberals to be about policy and persuasion. But moderate conservatives say they are having the opposite effect, chipping away at their middle ground and pushing them closer to Mr. Trump."

Tuesday's panel on "Outnumbered" discussed the effects of these anti-Trump protests.

Meghan McCain agreed with the argument, noting Michael Moore's resistance calendar, which tracks upcoming anti-Trump events worldwide. She also pointed out director Judd Apatow likening Trump's election to being "raped."

"Liberals are endearing me to Trump a little more. ... It makes me very protective of Trump supporters and Republicans in general," McCain said.

Bill Hemmer spoke of how he got caught up in a "Not My President's Day" rally Monday in New York City, saying these protests have no cohesion.

"When you don't have any power, the only power you have is that of resistance," he said. "If Democrats had the House or the Senate, one or the other, you would not be seeing this. Since they don't for a minimum of two years, you're gonna [sic] see a lot more of this."
