'Much' of the Department of Defense food court was shut down by what is being called the "Day Without Immigrants."
Organizers have led a walkout of immigrant employees nationwide to prove their relevance to the nation's economy in the face of recent ICE arrests by the Trump administration.
Several franchises in the Pentagon's food court in Arlington, Va., were forced to close Thursday, including Sbarro, Burger King and Taco Bell.
Fox News' Jennifer Griffin said the walkout led to long lines for Defense Department employees on their lunch breaks. Some eateries remained open.
The walkout was staged in protest of President Trump's plans to crack down on illegal immigration and build a wall on the southern border.
Numerous McDonalds restaurants nationwide were forced to close because of the walkout, the Business Insider reported.
Also, entire swaths of cities saw their retail traffic forced to slow to a crawl, including in immigrant-majority Perth Amboy, N.J.
In Perth Amboy, one taco shop owner told WPIX-11 that the money she is likely to lose by shuttering for the day is worth it in order to send a statement to Washington.
