I'm stunned that a leopard got a rhino calf at all

I'm stunned that a leopard got a rhino calf at all and am wondering where Ma Rhino was during the kill. My guess is that it had to be separated from it's mother, I assume she was poached, as even a large pride of lions are probably not going to mess with an adult rhino.
