Schwarzenegger: Congress Is Less Popular Than Hemorrhoids, Herpes & Nickelback

In a viral Facebook video, Arnold Schwarzenegger listed some of the things that are more popular than Congress, including hemorrhoids, herpes, cockroaches and Nickelback.

He wondered how politicians can keep getting re-elected with such dismal approval ratings...

Schwarzenegger, a former Republican California governor, explained that politicians can manipulate the boundaries of congressional districts, so they pick their voters, as opposed to voters picking their politicians.

He said that this process, known as gerrymandering, has created an "absurd reality."

He noted that only one of the 53 congressional districts in the Golden State changed party hands between 2002 and 2010.

Congressional approval ratings went into the single digits and politicians still couldn't lose, he said.

"The Soviet Politburo had more turnover than California politics!"

In 2010, the state government took the power to gerrymander away from the legislature, he said, calling it proof that "gerrymandering can be permanently 'terminated.'"

Schwarzenegger is not the only current or former politician to take aim at the practice of redistricting.

Governor Larry Hogan (R-Md.) proposed legislation to end gerrymandering in the Old Line State, as critics have commonly pointed to oddly shaped districts between Baltimore and Washington that are seen as prime examples of ideological redistricting.
