President Donald Trump has offered the national security adviser position to Vice Adm. Robert Harward (Ret.), John Roberts reported just moments ago.
Roberts said Harward, a former Navy SEAL commander, is likely to be named soon and that the White House hoped to have him in place by Friday.
Roberts reported yesterday, following the resignation of Michael Flynn, that Harward was the leading contender.
Harward served as deputy commander at CENTCOM under Gen. James Mattis (Ret.), who is now the defense secretary.
He is a former Navy SEAL who served in Iraq and Afghanistan commanding special operations. Harward served on President George W. Bush's National Security Council and was assigned to the National Counterterrorism Center in 2005.
Meantime, Trump's nominee for labor secretary has withdrawn his name from consideration.
Roberts said Andrew Puzder, a fast food company executive, withdrew after several Senate Republicans told the White House they would vote against him.
Mike Emanuel reported last night on "Special Report" that the nomination appeared to be in serious jeopardy.
Lawmakers were said to be concerned over Puzder's hiring of an undocumented worker in his home. Puzder said he fired the housekeeper after learning of her immigration status.
