Re: chemist823 #584
I have wondered if the recent move up was partially in sympathy with NTRP, which, like AVXL, is looking at a different mechanism of action for Alzheimer's that does NOT focus on clearing amyloid plaques. (They hope that their drug causes new synapses to form.) They have results due in April, and seem like they have some good anecdotal evidence.

Please note: I am certainly not pumping NTRP, because it is also very risky.
My thought is that if they are successful, that is also proof of concept for AVXL -- that amyloid is a symptom, not a cause.

Alzheimer's is a complex disease. My theory is that there are many diseases with similar symptoms, all lumped into the "Alzheimer's" category, but that one of the reasons success with drugs has been elusive is that there are several different causes and not all cases will be helped with one drug's type of action.

I think that there is PLENTY of room for several Alzheimer's drugs, each of which may work for some forms of the disease but not others. Or, perhaps two or more drugs may work synergistically.

Someone told me to read the AVXL and NTRP boards at lieHUB, and it was indeed interesting and disturbing. Bashers seem to think that they need to badmouth whichever company they are not invested in. This is absurd. Just on the basis of simple decency, whatever drug might finally work will be a blessing to humanity. And if both work, in different ways, there is PLENTY of market share for several companies. I find it disgusting that people would root for another company's drug to fail, simply so that they might have a little more profit if the company they've invested in is successful.
